A Middlesbrough sports club for those with disabilities is hoping your Wish Sport tokens will help them to fund new equipment, reports the Teesside Gazette.
Formed in 2003, Middlesbrough Sportability Club was set up to provide sport and leisurely activities for children with disabilities aged between eight and 19 years old.
Run by eight volunteers and four members of staff, the club meets every Saturday morning at Holmwood School on Saltersgill Avenue in Middlesbrough. All young people with a learning disability as well as physical or sensory impairments are welcome.
Tom Jones, of the club, said: “We intend to spend this year’s Wish Sport fund on updating the sports equipment.
“It would be fantastic as we use a lot of equipment. This quickly becomes old, broken and popped, therefore, by being able to purchase new products we would be able to maintain our high standards of sports equipment and quality.”
Now in its fourth year, The Gazette’s Wish Sport campaign gives away thousands of pounds to not-for-profit sports groups across Teesside.
Funded by Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Society(www.teessidecharity.org.uk) , each registered group will be in with the chance of claiming a share of the £30,000 prize pot. The more tokens a group collects, the bigger its share.
Tokens will be printed in The Gazette every day from Monday, July 13 – but groups must register first.
Mark Ellis, chief operating officer of Middlesbrough Football Club, corporate patrons of the Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, said: “It’s terrific to see the Philanthropic Foundation once again make such a substantial donation to what is a great cause.
“Through the MFC Foundation we work closely with the community across Teesside with a particular focus being on promoting healthy living and an active lifestyle.
“The football club supports the great efforts made by the Philanthropic Foundation and the benefits that their hard work and generosity bring to the region.”
