The Foundation is delighted to be helping a grass roots community-based charity that works tirelessly to help hard-to-reach military veterans, many of whom have ended up homeless.
A £4,000 donation has been awarded to FirstLight Trust in Redcar towards a £12,600 project refurbishment, transforming part of the charity’s centre into a military veteran-friendly drop-in and café facility.
FirstLight focuses on rehabilitating former members of the military forces affected by physical wounds and injury as well as those suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder and psychological issues of disempowerment.
They provide advice and recreational facilities as well as medical, monetary, emotional, psychological and spiritual support.
An important part of the charity’s work is helping veterans to integrate into the community to reduce isolation and offering practical help to gain new skills.
