50 years ago, a group of parents and carers of children with physical and learning disabilities recognised there was no provision for their children to socialize, learn and have fun. These parents raised funds, secured their own premises, and started providing activities for their loved ones. Over the years our centre and membership has grown, we now provide our service five days and five evenings per week to people with varying degrees of learning and physical disabilities.
The Grenfell Club is member led; we encourage our members to take ownership of their activities and community centre. We run evening and day sessions Monday to Friday, plus a health and well-being session on a Saturday. Members are responsible for the reception area, running our coffee bar and working in our allotment. In a warm caring environment children, young people and adults with learning disabilities come to us to meet with their friends, learn new skills and develop in confidence.
We are seeking volunteers to to support people with learning disabilities manage our allotment, as soon as possible. Ideally volunteering for 2-4 hours any week day.
