Zarach is a charity dedicated to supporting children and families living in poverty by providing essential items like beds, bedding, and other basics, helping them move from crisis to stability. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to sleep well, eat well, and learn well. Would you like to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children living in poverty?

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team, particularly those with family engagement experience. If you have a background in social services, health and social care, or education, and are passionate about helping vulnerable families, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial visits to family homes to assess the needs of children and families in crisis.
  • Help families understand the impact of bed poverty and offer guidance on improving sleep routines to support children’s well-being and school success.
  • Be a positive role model, engaging with families in a friendly, supportive, and empathetic manner.
  • Provide advice, signpost to relevant support services, and help families access the resources they need.
  • Ensure that all interactions comply with safeguarding protocols and report any concerns appropriately.
  • Work as part of a caring team, liaising with other volunteers and staff to provide the best support possible.

Ideal Volunteer Profile:

  • Family engagement experience with vulnerable adults and children.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and ability to handle sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, and be organized.
  • Empathy, kindness, and a caring approach to the people you support.
  • Comfortable using your own vehicle to make visits to family homes (or car share with another volunteer). Travel costs and a lunch allowance will be reimbursed.

Training and Support:

  • Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure you feel confident in your role and are equipped to handle any challenges that may arise.
  • Volunteers will receive a detailed overview of responsibilities and a thorough understanding of the impact of bed poverty.
