Community Gardening

We are a small friendly community group in Acklam who have “adopted” a neglected green space known as “The Arty”.  We are improving it for both people and wildlife.

Among other things we:

• Plant and care for flowers, shrubs and trees to improve the variety of homes available for small creatures and birds
• Litter pick
• Have been collaborating with other people and organisations to build a new path, have a mural painted and erect bat and bird boxes.

We are looking for a community gardener volunteer or a small corporate group to help.

We hold “Arty Action” mornings twice a month. One on a Saturday and one mid week (days vary), these are advertised via our email newsletter. There is NO commitment to come to them all, just turn up when you can. The work involves gardening but no previous experience required. You can use our tools or bring your own.  Alternatively, you can litter pick (equipment provided).

The Arty in Acklam is a strip of land running SW from the junction of The Prospect, Thackeray Grove and Walton Avenue TS5 7QZ up to the east of Mill Hill playing field.
