This opportunity is based in Stockton-on-Tees
Tees River Rescue is an independent rescue charity based on the River Tees. As well as providing search and rescue, we patrol the River at peak times throughout the year and provide education, support and reassurance for river users up and down the river.
As a charity, we rely on support from the public, local businesses, supporters and our volunteers.
Tees River Rescue has no paid staff and receives no government funding. As an independent inland lifeboat we aim to be on call 24/7 at the request of emergency services and to provide patrols at key times.
Becoming a member of boat crew is a big commitment. We have high standards and expect our volunteers to meet those standards. We conduct regular patrols and as we develop as a charity will be training our crews to conduct search and rescue. Ideally you already have some boating experience, live near our base in central Stockton, and be available for training on Monday evenings and the occasional weekend.
Our crews must be physically fit as you will be expected to be able to rescue persons from the water and to be able to lift ‘Fred’ our rescue dummy. You will also be expected to conduct CPR if required and will be trained in first aid and the use of a defibrillator.
We meet on Monday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm so ideally you will be able to attend regularly. We are seeking people who will also opt into supporting regular events and fundraising efforts, patrols or support with boat maintenance depending on availability.
