Tandem Pilot Volunteer

Organisation: Open Country
Location: Margrove Park, Boosbeck
Time Commitment: Tuesdays, 6pm – 9pm
DBS: Required (costs covered by Open Country)

Love cycling and the great outdoors? Want to make a real difference in someone’s life? Become a Tandem Pilot Volunteer with Open Country and help visually impaired and disabled people enjoy the freedom and joy of cycling.

As a Tandem Pilot, you’ll be partnered with a stoker (rear rider) on a tandem bike. Your role is to lead the way, ensuring a safe, sociable, and enjoyable ride through the local countryside. No prior tandem experience is necessary — just confidence on a bike and a friendly, patient attitude.

The Tandem Club meets every Tuesday evening from 6–9pm at Margrove Park in Boosbeck. You’ll head out together for fun, accessible group rides with plenty of fresh air and good company.

A DBS check is required, but don’t worry — Open Country cover the cost, and you can start volunteering while it’s being processed.

If you’re passionate about helping others and love being on two wheels, they’d love to hear from you!
