Are you an experienced accountant looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a difference?

Autism Parents Together (Tees Valley) is seeking a dedicated Treasurer Trustee to join our Board and help guide our financial decisions.

About Us

They are a charity dedicated to providing education, information, and opportunities designed to support and enable autistic children to maximise their potential. In addition, they offer support groups, forums, advice, advocacy, and general assistance for autistic children and their families.

The Board currently consists of four trustees, all of whom are professionals with experience in autism, mental health, SEND, and teaching – and are also parents to autistic children. They are now looking to add financial expertise to the team.

The Role of the Treasurer Trustee

While the Treasurer has significant responsibility, decisions about financial resources are taken collectively by the Board. Your role will be to:

  • Ensure that the charity spends its money correctly and legally.
  • Report regularly to the trustees on the charity’s financial matters.
  • Keep accurate financial records, ensuring they are securely maintained.
  • Oversee that invoices are paid in a timely manner.
  • Support financial planning and control, including budget management and yearly financial forecasts.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Some experience in financial planning and control.
  • Understanding of how to manage budgets and financial forecasting.
  • Accountancy experience (as we already have the help of a bookkeeper).

Personal Qualities

  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Punctuality and reliability.

General Requirements

  • A commitment to the organisation and its mission.
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
  • The confidence to speak your mind and contribute to Board discussions.
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of a trustee board.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Time Commitment

  • Attendance at monthly Trustee meetings (up to 2 hours per meeting).
  • An estimated overall commitment of 2-4 hours per month.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your financial expertise to make a tangible difference in the lives of autistic children and their families. If you are interested, we’d love to hear from you!
