That’s how our £10,000 donation was described by staff at the Prince’s Trust’s Fairbridge programme that supports vulnerable young people aged 11 to 25 across Teesside.
Karen Eve of our generous patrons Castlegate Shopping Centre paid a visit to see the Fairbridge activities in the shadow of Teesside’s iconic Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough.
Clearly moved by the stories she heard, Karen heard how our donation – made possible by the generosity of our supporters and patrons – will prove vital to 30 vulnerable young Teessiders at risk of falling out of the education system.
It will help the Fairbridge programme give them the support they need, guide them away from a life of unemployment and poverty – and inspire them to succeed.
The Fairbridge programme offers young people a mix of group activities and one-to-one support to develop the skills and confidence they need to move forward.
Karen heard how children from disadvantaged backgrounds are five times more likely than their peers to fail academically.
These young people are much more likely to face a future of crime and social breakdown and are less likely to find stable long term employment.
Youth unemployment rates across Teesside are among the highest in the country – nearly THREE TIMES the national average – with over 4,000 18 to 24 year olds claiming Jobseekers Allowance.
