Many leading local businesses and generous Teessiders helped raise £14,000 for the Philanthropic Foundation through a unique £200-a-ticket draw that took place on the day the charity’s Annual Ball would have taken place.
Following the difficult decision to cancel the annual fundraising Ball for the first time in the nine years since the Foundation was formed, those who’ve often supported the event were instead asked to purchase a ticket for the special prize draw.
Generous supporters donated a number of impressive prizes including a £5,000 holiday vouchers from new patron Frances Connolly.
The monies raised will enable the Foundation to gift short breaks at the charity’s three caravans near Filey to struggling Teesside families who would otherwise find it impossible to fund such a break.
Lee Bramley, the Foundation’s chair of trustees, said: “We were all disappointed that we weren’t able go ahead with the Ball this year – but we were determined to do all we could to fill something of the £75,000-plus gap the event normally raises.
“Once again, our patrons and supporters responded with incredible generosity. Some donated very special prizes, while many purchased the £200 raffle tickets to help us raise £14,000.
“The £200 price of a ticket equated to the cost of a caravan break for one of the disadvantaged local families we want to help – so raising £14,000 means we’ll be able to fund short breaks for no fewer than 70 families, which is fantastic news.
“Thanks again to all those who supported us and congratulations to the prize-winners.”
