Help make life a beach for our disabled caravan visitors

Please help us support Teessiders with disabilities by paying a fiver towards a fundraising raffle designed to help buy a £4,000 beach wheelchair for use at one of our awesome caravans.

We’re supporting the wonderful fundraising efforts of Cath McNicol and Carolyn Bean who run the club to give those with severe physical disabilities chance to take part in an exciting, fast-paced sport.

The idea of buying the beach wheelchair came to Cath and Carolyn following a stay at Finlay’s Holiday Home, our specially adapted caravan at Reighton Sands that gives Teessiders with disabilities short breaks away from home.

They want to give disabled visitors to our caravan chance to enjoy the nearby golden sands – as those in wheelchairs currently struggle to access the beach.

Cath explained: “The caravan park has a long, steep ramp to the beach which has a short area of rougher ground before you reach the beautiful, sandy beach.

“I would like to raise enough money to buy a Hippocampe beach wheelchair and lockable storage box for use by families using the caravan, so they can make the most of their short break.”

Cath and Carolyn are holding a virtual raffle to bring them closer to their goal of buying a beach wheelchair – setting a target of £4,000 for the beach wheelchair and a lockable storage box.

The duo have already raised more than £740 – but to give their efforts a boost, we’re asking our supporters to donate £5 which will buy three raffle tickets. The raffle will be drawn on March 31st.

Explaining how they’d kicked off the fundraising, Cath told us: ‘’ Initially, all I did was a ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ challenge and sold stuff from a clear-out. That went on hold over Christmas when restrictions due to the pandemic tightened again.

“My sister, however, has been busy making pebble art pictures. She has paid for the cost of making them, including the frames and postage, and is asking friends and family who ask for one for a donation to my Justgiving page instead.

“I’m ashamed to say she’s actually doing a better job than I am of fundraising at the moment!”
