Food parcels, home-made meals, incontinence pads, toiletries and period products are among the essentials delivered by an amazing Teesside charity from our recent £500 donation.
The superstar volunteers at TEES – Together, Engage, Encourage, Support – have stepped up their work across Redcar and East Cleveland since the coronavirus crisis started to hit home.
According to founder Tonia, the situation is “a hundred times worse than it was – the crisis has made the vulnerable more visible”.
The charity previously focused on period poverty and providing clothing to locals in need – but the Covid-19 crisis means they are now focusing on food and other essentials.
They deliver essentials across areas such as Redcar, Loftus, Brotton, Skinningrove and Liverton Mines including Redcar’s own Coatham House for homeless locals aged 16-25.
“It’s like Christmas for them when we arrive,” says Tonia. “They wait on their doorstep. They aren’t used to have home-cooked, nutritional food.
“Over the weekend, we also delivered Easter baskets to the young people at Coatham House featuring Easter eggs but also essentials such as underpants, socks, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste and a tooth brush. They were much appreciated.”
