A LAST call has been issued to Teesside charities, community groups and schools to apply for a share a £10,000 Goalden Giveaway.
The £10,000 fund is being made available by charitable movement Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, who have extended the applications deadline by a week to 2pm on Friday July 17.
The Foundation is funded by Teesside businesses and individual patrons including Middlesbrough FC who are backing the Goalden Giveaway.
The money will be split between 10 charities, community groups and schools – with dozens of local good causes having already applied to make the shortlist.
The initiative follows three similar Goalden Giveaways that attracted applications from not-for-profit organisations across Teesside last year.
Foundation chairman Andy Preston will lead a selection panel that faces the tough task of choosing the 10-strong shortlist.
Also on the panel will be representatives of Middlesbrough FC and some of the Foundation’s other patrons that include many of Teesside’s leading companies.
Boro fans and supporters of the good causes will then have an opportunity to vote via the Foundation’s official website at www.teessidecharity.org.uk for the good cause they believe most deserves the money.
The charity receiving most votes will receive £2,500 together with a visit from two Boro first team stars.
The second-placed charity will receive £1,500 and those placed third to fifth £1,000. There’ll be £750 for the charities getting the sixth and seventh most votes and £500 for the remaining good causes.
Foundation chairman Andy said: “With Boro’s support, our previous Goalden Giveaways have proved to be hugely popular – so we’re now making it a fixture in our calendar.
“It’s an exciting way to donate money to some of Teesside’s amazing community groups that need our help and get the public involved in our Foundation. It also raises the profile of our charity and the various community groups that take part.”
Previous winners of the Goalden Giveaway’s £2,500 top prize include Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club, Teesside Wheelchair Basketball Club and Trinity Holistic Centre at James Cook University Hospital.
Others to have won a share of funds include Community Campus Billingham, Loftus Dolphins Swimming Club, 1st Saltburn Scout Group and My Sisters Place in Middlesbrough.

Deadline for entries is 2pm on Friday, July 17 2015. The online vote is expected to take place from late July.
Other patrons of the Philanthropic Foundation include Ecco Finishing Suppies, RMB Auto, The Keys Yarm, Castlegate Shopping Centre, CPD Bodies, Charles Clinkard and Hunters Estate Agents.
