Let’s give a big shout out for the generous people at PD Ports (Teesport) – who have donated the funds for no fewer than FIFTEEN iPad Minis to allow seriously ill coronavirus patients to stay in touch with their families from their hospital beds.
Controllers of Teesport and guardians of the River Tees, PD Ports are always great ambassadors for our region – so this generous action came as no surprise to us.
They agreed to share the iPad Mins between the palliative care units at James Cook and North Tees hospitals after hearing how some Covid-19 victims were dying alone of this awful virus, unable even to say their final farewells to their loved ones.
PD Ports’ head of communications Kirsten Donkin said: “I first heard about this initiative through the Philanthropic Foundation when I contacted them to see how PD Ports could pledge a donation to the NHS locally and help vulnerable people across the Tees Valley region as a result of Covid-19.
“We had already received overwhelming support from our people to donate all of the proceeds, for the next two months, from our internal charitable support scheme, in support of the NHS.
“Providing iPad Minis for Covid-19 patients receiving end-of-life care in hospital, so they can remain in contact with their families and not feel isolated and alone, is something I would encourage all local businesses to consider supporting.
“I am delighted we are able to provide 15 iPad Minis split between James Cook and North Tees hospitals – but just one will have a profound impact on those patients receiving treatment and their ability to remain close to loved ones.”
We’ve had a truly AWESOME response to this appeal and believe we now have enough devices in place or on order, but thank you to all those who’ve helped.
