Teesside community projects and charities are set for another massive boost after Foundation trustees approved more than £23,000 in grants – with a further £4,500 pledged.
The biggest grant given the green light is the £5,000 that will go to The Shack in the Ragworth area of Stockton, one of the least privileged areas of Teesside.
A team led by dedicated volunteers has converted an old building into a first class community resource centre, The Shack, providing educational, recreational and social activities in an area of high unemployment, anti-social behaviour and health deprivation.
The Foundation has donated £5,000 towards further building renovations at The Shack.
Meanwhile, short-term funding of £3,000 has been provided to the youth group at Liverton Mines, near Saltburn, to support an area of East Cleveland that suffers from extensive deprivation.
Based at St Hilda’s Church in Liverton, activities for 5-13 year-olds include art and crafts, fun and games, refreshments, visits and a healthy eating programme.
