Beds for Teesside children – thanks to you

Published on: 5th April 2022

After a busy day, we all take for granted the opportunity to have a restful sleep in a comfortable bed, so it’s a shock that there are families and children in our region without a bed or a mattress.

We knew we had to help to rectify this terrible situation, and so we are supporting the amazing Pat McBride from the Middlesbrough-based CAUSE charity, who also wanted to do something to address bed poverty on Teesside.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to give CAUSE £920 which Pat will use to purchase ten single beds to add to the 20 that her charity has bought each month since Christmas.

These were usually bought from Frade, a charity dealing with excellent quality, second-hand furniture. CAUSE also buy the recipients of the beds a new duvet and bedding.

We have also set aside £5,000 which, along with a donation of £560 from NatWest in Middlesbrough, will be divided amongst numerous charities in Teesside who are doing their bit to alleviate bed poverty by buying beds, mattresses and bedding for those in need.

Pat will be a speaker at our summer Ladies’ Lunch where she will be updating us on the Bed Poverty Appeal. In the meantime, you can donate to the cause via our website ‘Donate’ button, clicking the Bed Poverty option or click the direct link here: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/20248
