Steel River Drinks is Teesside’s leading artisan drinks producer. Founded in 2018 by local entrepreneur, Jay Byers, it has been one of the region’s success stories in recent years, with the ever-popular and increasingly well-known Steel River Gins leading the company’s product portfolio.

Jay Byers wanted to put Teesside on the drinks map. He started the company with just £10 to his name and now through lots of hard work, imagination and adaption, the company is on course for its first £million turnover year and now has nine staff.

The gins sell throughout the UK and are available in hundreds of venues around Teesside, County Durham and Yorkshire. The company is now also looking forward to being selected as a supplier to the supermarket chain, Morrisons, which will only grow the brand awareness further.

From making the gins in his kitchen three years ago, to now having a 4000sq foot unit in Stockton, complete with a store and a Speakeasy Bar, the company also has a unit in Darlington to store and age its rums and whiskies, of which production has already started.

2022 also saw the launch of the gins in cans, both tonic and lemonade on offer, which has seen an amazing response from thirsty Teessiders, who have taken them to the races, beaches, festivals, holidays and parties all around the UK.

Last year saw the launch of the iconic Teesside Dry Gin: WINTER’S EMBRACE. With the labels and gift box artwork designed by internationally renowned Teesside artist, Mackenzie Thorpe.

Not content with those products, Steel River Drinks is to launch its own beers and a range of gins called BIG BALLS. These are to raise money and awareness for men’s mental health. Because as Jay Byers says: “It takes Big Balls to say you’re not OK. And it’s OK to be not OK.”

Recently, the company launched three commemorative gins, to celebrate the life of our beloved Queen. QUEEN ELIZABETH II Gins have sold to people all around the UK, as well, as America, New Zealand, Europe and even Japan.

To complete its range for 2022, Steel River Drinks will be launching its own Port in December called TEESPORT. (Get it!)

What founder Jay Byers is most proud of is that the success his company is achieving enables Steel River Drinks to regularly give back to its community. Our community. And regularly donates monies to mental health charities and foodbanks.

For Steel River Spirits is a true community spirit.

Orders can be placed at the Steel River Stand on the night and be collected at the end of the evening or delivered the next day.
